WELCOME ON NATHALIE'S BLOG TO STUDY and TEACH ENGLISH!
Living in a democracy is a real luck in our society today. However, it seems that what we do is sometimes not enough. There is only so much we can do and when some people want you to keep quite, they should remember that you will find ways to express yourself. This is one of them.
On a lighter note, I recently explored the state of New York with some students and it was a fantastic experience. Beautiful landscapes, inspiring colors and
heart-rending, friendly colleagues but also veterans full of empathy. I must add that our students were great as well !
Reading suggestions :
If you want to revisit our historical past revisited by a great novelist, Ken Follett is there for you ! The thing is that I keep looking but all his novels are captivating : Never, The Armour Of Light and The Third Twin, The Man from Saint Peterburg are less well-known but nonetheless thrilling. In any case, all of his novels are, to me, a great experience for readers and an easy way to escape and imagine a different ending to the current problems! If you ask me, many leaders should explore historical novels more and revize their history lessons ! The last one "The Circle of days" is quite singular in its own way with a closer look at prehistoric times and life around Stonehenge !
Another suggestion but quite different : during a recent visit in England I discovered Hamnet, an interesting novel by Maggie O' Farrel about Hamnet, Shakespeare's dead son. In 2020, the book won the Women's Prize for Fiction and National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction. It is quite original and plunges you in a fascinating atmosphere. Now it has been adapated into a film by Chloe Zhao, who won an oscar for Nomadland !
Meanwhile, we need to keep our thoughts for all those people suffering from war, especially in Ukraine , but also for all the women persecuted around the world, in particular in Iran and Afghanistan.
